Improve your emotional intelligence

A client asked the other day, how they could improve their Emotional Intelligence quickly.

I thought about it for a bit and decided that the quickest way to improve one's EQ is by peppering their language and actions with HIGH Emotional Intelligence words and deeds. These words are all verbs as displaying Emotional Intelligence is, in itself, an action to be taken.

This of course, is no substitute for actually training in Emotional Intelligence and becoming more fully versed in how to be a High EQ individual, but this is the...how should I say, Readers Digest or Cliff Notes version.

So, with that said, here the top 20 verbs that you can employ...TODAY to begin to make your more Emotionally Intelligent:

20 High Emotional Intelligence verbs:

  1. Listen

  2. Understand

  3. Validate

  4. Support

  5. Encourage

  6. Empathize

  7. Appreciate

  8. Recognize

  9. Acknowledge

  10. Collaborate

  11. Nurture

  12. Guide

  13. Motivate

  14. Inspire

  15. Connect

  16. Communicate

  17. Adapt

These verbs can be used in various contexts, such as one-on-one interactions, team meetings, and communication with the entire organization. Leaders who actively apply these verbs in their leadership approach can foster a positive and emotionally intelligent work environment, leading to increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and overall team success.
